The history of Palazzo Jannuzzi has its roots in the second half of the 17th century, when the Jannuzzi family, originally from Abruzzo, moved from Foggia to Andria.
In this new location, the family acquired several farms on the Murge and vast lands for grazing, for a total extension of about six hundred hectares. Later, they expanded their properties with the purchase of a one thousand-hectare latifundium in the Toritto area, intended for the cultivation of almond, olive and arable crops.
At the beginning of the 19th century, this family thus became part of the Tertiary Aristocracy, which was established in Andria, as in other Apulian cities, together with the Spagnoletti Zeuli, Ceci, Marchio, Porro and other families, almost substituting the family of the Counts Carafa Dukes of Andria, who had been feudal lords of the city for about four centuries.
After the fall of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Emmanuele Jannuzzi, son of Giovanni Jannuzzi and Annamaria Spagnoletti Zeuli, was forced to leave Andria due to his ties with the Bourbon government. Taking refuge in Bari, after a difficult period, he managed to rebuild his social and economic position thanks to the support of some influential local families, including the Diana and Rogadeo di Torrequadra families.
In 1861, with the return of political stability, Emmanuele Jannuzzi promoted the construction of a prestigious residence in the heart of Bari. The project was entrusted to architect Luigi Revest, a leading figure in the Bari technical scene of the time, while the construction was handled by the Fratelli Buonvino company.
Situated between Via Abate Gimma and Via De Rossi, Palazzo Jannuzzi is distinguished by its elegant and harmonious lines, an accomplished expression of neoclassical architecture.
Over time, Palazzo Jannuzzi has been recognised as an important testimony to the architectural and cultural heritage of the city of Bari. Declared of historical-artistic interest under the law of 1 June 1939, it has been listed as a property protected by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage since 23 January 1991.
Today, Palazzo Jannuzzi is not only a historical residence, but also a symbol of tradition revisited in a contemporary key. Rediscovered as an innovative space, it hosts events and cultural initiatives, offering an authentic experience to those who wish to experience history, art and beauty in the beating heart of Bari.
